I have a PA system with a cordless microphone to ensure that all guests will be able to hear your ceremony clearly and a signing table with a white clo and chairs.

Are there any rules/regulations we need to follow?

Yes. The Notice of Intended Marriage Form must be lodged within 18 months and not less than one calendar month from the date the marriage is due to take place. (I can arrange this for you at your first interview)

The words of the ceremony are entirely up to the couple, with the following words required to be included to satisfy the Marriage Act:

  • The celebrant must introduce him/herself at the beginning of the ceremony
  • The Monitum must be said before the exchange of vows: “Before you are joined in marriage, in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am bound to remind you of the serious and binding nature of the relationship into which you are about to enter. Marriage, according to law in Australia , is the union of a man and a woman, to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life”.
  • The Vows, the bride and groom must say to each other “I call upon the persons here present to witness that I, A.B. (or C.D.), take you, C.D. (or A.B.) to be my lawful wedded wife (or husband)”; or words to that effect.
  • Two witnesses over the age of eighteen must be present and will be required to sign the marriage documents at the end of the ceremony.

What documents are required?

The documents I will be required to witness are as follows:
For a person born in Australia - a Birth Extract or Birth Certificate.
For a person born overseas - a birth certificate or a passport issued by a government of an overseas country, showing the date and place of the party's birth.
If previously married and divorced - a Decree Absolute of Divorce or Certificate of Divorce.
If previously married and widowed - a Death Certificate
If you do not currently have these documents and you were born or married in Victoria you can easily obtain a copy of them from the Victorian Registry of Birth Deaths & Marriages.
